In a heartfelt plea that resonates deeply, Savannah Guthrie, the host of the Today show, has released a video alongside her siblings, Annie and Cameron, urgently seeking information regarding their missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, who is 84 years old. The family is desperate for her safe return after she was reported missing this past Sunday.
In a poignant video shared on Instagram, the trio expressed their concern for their mother's well-being, emphasizing her deteriorating health and the absence of her essential medication. Savannah revealed troubling details about a ransom letter purportedly received from suspected kidnappers, raising the stakes in this alarming situation.
"She’s 84 years old. Her health, her heart, is fragile. She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive, and she needs it not to suffer," Savannah stated, underscoring the urgency of their message.
The Guthrie siblings acknowledged the media reports about the ransom letter, emphasizing their determination as a family to do everything possible to find her. Savannah continued, "However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen."
Nancy was last seen at her home near Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday night, with her disappearance being noted by the following afternoon when a family member received a concerning call from a church associate stating she was unaccounted for. The local sheriff, Chris Nanos, indicated that foul play could not be dismissed, adding a layer of complexity and urgency to the investigation.
During a Sunday night press briefing, Nanos mentioned that Nancy was last spotted around 9:30 PM on Saturday at her residence. Search and rescue efforts, including volunteer groups and border patrol agents, have been mobilized, and intriguingly, a homicide team has also become involved, which is not typical in cases of missing persons. The sheriff further asserted, "We do in fact have a crime scene," suggesting that Nancy may not have left her home voluntarily.
As of Wednesday, no additional updates on the investigation have been made public. In the emotional Instagram video, Annie described their mother as "our beacon" and earnestly urged for her return. "The light is missing from our lives; Nancy is our mother, we are her children, she is our beacon. We are always going to be merely human, just normal human people who need our mom. Mama, mama, if you’re listening, we need you to come home. We miss you."
Following the family's moving statement, former President Donald Trump took to social media to announce that he had spoken with Savannah and was "deploying all resources to get her mother home safely." Reports from Axios indicated that Attorney General Pam Bondi also reached out to Guthrie, and noteworthy, FBI Director Kash Patel plans to personally travel to Tucson to assist in the search.
